As we all know, there is much talk these days about energy efficiency, green building, and global warming. To tell you the truth, I have my own opinion about global warming and whether it really exists, but that is a different topic for a different time and place. Let's talk about your home on the coast of North Carolina, from Ocracoke to Wilmington and what energy efficiency means to you, the end-user.
Green building and energy efficiency do go hand in hand, but what does it mean to the general public. Most consumers would say that if a window isnt made of wood and it doesn't have to be painted, then it is "green" and efficient. On the contrary, wood if it comes from the right source, is a green building material, but vinyl windows are not green. That is right, I repeat, VINYL IS NOT GREEN (I wonder if I will get any response on that one). Vinyl is a petroleum based product and therefore makes it harmful to our environment.
Integrity fiberglass wood windows however, are a very green AND energy efficient product. They use a small amount of wood for beautiful, warm interiors, but their exterior is a very rugged, durable fiberglass product that won't shrink, warp, crack, or "smile" (what happens to the check rail of some vinyl windows after exposed to summertime temps; good on the face of a child, but not a window) like vinyl windows do. It is able to withstand extreme temperature changes, humidity, salt air, extreme cold, and UV rays from the sun. Fiberglass is nonconductive so it doesn't allow heat or cold to pass through the frame of the window. This helps considerable in heat gain/heat loss through the product itself (if you don't believe me, dig down in the beach sand on a hot day and cool your feet. fiberglass is largely sand which doesn't conduct heat). Vinyl manufacturers can not make this claim as their products allow heat to pass through your product, thereby creating higher energy bills.
Emerald Isle customers have been enjoying the benefits of Integrity fiberglass windows for years. That, coupled with Windows & More installation practices, insures many years of performance from the best products on the market. Don't be fooled into thinking that a window is a window. Nothing could be further from the truth as there are varying degrees of quality and performance. Remember, it is more affordable to put quality windows in at the start, rather than replace them later, as this can be a very costly process.
