Windows & More, A Marvin Design Gallery, located in Morehead City in Eastern NC, has been dedicating a lot of time to "social media networking", such as Twitter and Facebook.

With all of the rage of Twitter and Facebook, we wanted to see what all of the attention was about. I mean, you can't even watch the news without hearing Twitter or Facebook Mentioned, and we wanted to see if we could get in on the action. We wanted to get Windows & More here in Morehead City, on the map, so to speak. We had to get in the Facebook Frenzy, or the Twitter Train.


This is what we have discovered so far.


Twitter is a realtime website, where you can enter in different "tweets", or posts, throughout the day. Celebrities have Twitter account, news organizations have Twitter accounts, large national companies have twitter accounts, Marvin Windows has a Twitter account, it seems as if everyone has a twitter account. You have 140 characters that you can make your "tweet" with. It can be quite frustruating until you get the hang of shortening your words. There are many websites dedicated to Twitter, and you can certainly take advantage of those. Windows & More, well, a lot of times we like to add a "link" to another webpage. There are websites decidated to that too. Sometimes we tweet about a local event that is going on somewhere around Morehead City. We have made some really cool connections. Just today, I read a "tweet" from someone, asking if I could write an article to go in her company's newsletter. Her company is located in Jacksonville, NC, we are in Morehead City, NC. Although we do sell our Marvin products in Jacksonville, we were not affiliated with this company until we "met" on "Twitter".


Next, is Facebook. Ahhhhhhhh, the facebook frenzy. Facebook is a website where you can enter posts, track down people, track down other businesses, you can also download photos on your facebook page. You can also attach links to your Facebook posts. When I first started our account on Facebook, I thought to myself 'I can't believe that I am actually Facebooking as a part of my job at Windows & More'. Well, as you start building your Facebook friends, you can find ALL SORTS of people. As a graduate of West Carteret High School in Morehead City, I have been reconnected to many people from my past. Some of them are still located here in Morehead City, but many of them are scattered around the world. It has been a great way of catching up with old friends, meeting new friends, and staying in touch with current friends in this crazy, busy life.


So, has Twitter or Facebook helped Windows & More at all? I would have to say yes. We actually connected with an old friend from high school, who still happens to live in Morehead City also. As we got to talking, he has now moved his business in the building with ours, and is an important part of our company now. He handles all of our computer issues. I've had "tweets" asking for quotes from Windows & More. I've connected with many different people in the business world, that I would have never had the opportunity to connect with otherwise.
